PSALM OF THE SOUL'S GREAT ESCAPE

Incacerated in a bruised body
like a soldier in a prison camp,
the soul plots a great escape.
In the darkness after bed check
the soul's strategy takes shape.

The soul knows there is no sense
trying to go over the fence;
the barbed wire will slice the soul
into tiny bits of blood and tears.

The light from the watchtower
will capture the soul's attempt
and while the soul hangs shredded
on the thorns above the fence,
the guns of the guards will finish
the soul'd feeble bid to flee.

No, soul knows where it must go
to escape this prison of pain.
The soul must go deeper,
burrow down, under ground.
It will take more time but then,
when the soul's imprisoned,
time is an ally
not an acquaintance.
